At Camp Makhaseh Overnight Camp, we intentionally choose to keep our number of campers small to ensure that your child doesn’t get “lost in the pack”. As leaders, we are very intentional about getting to know every camper and making them feel safe and loved. In the past, we have even had a large enough staff for ratios of 1 staff for every 3 campers. We want to make sure that they feel treated as an individual, and we want to get to know them on an individual basis as well.

For those who aren’t too much into sports and games, we also have a great craft program at Camp. It is woven throughout the main program of camp, but campers can also take part in different creative activities throughout the week if they want to find a way to fill up their free time.

As guests of Upper Canada Camp, we have access to their fresh water lake and sandy beach each day we are at camp! Every Camper is required to successfully complete a swim test before being free to swim. Lifejackets are also available to those who need it and proper supervision will be provided.

Every year at Camp since 2015, we have been using the theme based on the popular reality TV show, Survivor. Campers love the experience they get working in tribes, competing in challenges, and of course, sitting on the edge of their seat at Tribal Council each night (don’t worry, we don’t vote anyone out of camp). All week long, each tribe has the chance to earn points in a variety of different ways which then add up to votes at the Final Tribal Council where they have a chance to become the Ultimate Survivors, have their tribe name engraved on the Fraser Cup and share a big table of delicious treats! We go all out with immunity challenges, rewards, hidden advantages, and many other Survivor elements and as many twists as we can cram in! Challenges come in many different forms like team sports, puzzles, obstacle courses, food and endurance challenges and more!

Central to our very existence and purpose of Camp Makhaseh is the desire for every one of our campers to have a real encounter with Jesus Christ. Each of our leaders have made the choice to passionately follow Jesus with their lives, and so our chapel time is an opportunity for us to open the Bible and hear what it says about life, faith and God. We’re not pushy with our faith, but love to openly engage in conversations and answer questions. We don’t pretend to have all of the answers as we are still trying to figure it out ourselves too. We give students a clear choice with what they believe about Jesus and welcome them to express their doubts and ask us anything.

All throughout the week of camp, there are a number of different activities that campers can get involved in. They can choose to take part in our annual “Makhaseh’s Got Talent”, go down our massive Slip ‘n’ Slide, hang out on the playground, go on hikes, play basketball, beach volleyball, go paddle boating, swim in the lake, relax at a movie night or any other of our great activities. We really try to keep some things as a surprise too, so you never know what might be waiting for you this year at Camp Makhaseh!

We provide a delicious variety of “what’s not your usual camp food”. Tantalizing meals of pizza & wings, BBQ ribs, pancakes, mouth-watering desserts and more…our food even has our leaders scrambling up for seconds with their mouths watering!

Part of chapel includes worship music from a live band consisting of a number of our talented volunteer leaders. It is both energetic and reflective, fun and meaningful. We’re sure you’ll be singing these songs way after camp is over!
